National Racehorse Week takes place next month

There is still the chance for racing fans to visit stables during National Racehorse Week in Britain , with a host of yards still having spaces available for visits during the popular event next month.

Stables of all sizes from both codes are set to open their doors across Britain for the now annual shindig, which begins next Saturday, and runs until September 15.

Devised by trainer Richard Phillips in 2019, National Racehorse Week is designed to celebrate the racehorse. Those visiting yards will be able to see horses on the gallops and in schooling sessions, as well as view the veterinary care provided among plenty of attractions on offer.

Stables that still have spaces to fill during the week include the likes of Alan King, Olly Murphy, Charlie Johnston and Ben Pauling. Visitors can also go to see studs including Newsells Park, and racehorse retraining centres such as New Beginnings in east Yorkshire or the Oxfordshire-based Heros.

Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer Jamie Snowden is opening the doors to his Lambourn yard on September 8, and he hopes the initiative will once again shine a positive light on the sport.

"We're really looking forward to welcoming the general public and hope we can get a healthy turnout," he said. "It's vital we celebrate these horses and show how much we care about them.

"Anything we can do to help publicise the exceptional welfare care horses get on a day-to-day basis we should do. It's great we are able to portray that to members of the public."

The Arc Malton open day on Sunday, September 8, when the public will be allowed behind-the-scenes access to one of Britain's most historic training towns, also takes place under the National Racehorse Week umbrella.

The event has partnered with York racecourse and those who go to the open day can also go racing on the Knavesmire that afternoon. Early bird tickets, which are available until Saturday, August 31, are £15 for adults – or £7.50 for the open day only. Under-18s go free.

Information on yards available for visiting can be found here, while additional information on National Racehorse Week can be found on its website. Tickets and information for Malton Open Day can be found here. Find out more at nationalracehorseweek.uk.
