Peter Savill: some racecourses are treating participants like 'employees' not partners over prize-money contributions

Peter Savill has revealed the Professional Racing Association (PRA) has made progress in talks with racecourses about their contribution to prize-money but described those who have not been willing to provide details of their total racing revenue as treating horsemen like "employees".

The PRA is a new pressure group formed by the former BHB chairman and owner of Plumpton and represents around 150 trainers covering half of the British racehorse population.

It is calling for racecourses to put one-third of their racing revenue into prize-money. Those that have done so in the previous year will receive a kitemark from the PRA whose members have agreed that from 2025 they will only enter their horses in PRA-approved fixtures and races.
