King George third L'Homme Presse given Ryanair option as owner raises possibility of handicap prep run
L'Homme Presse could bid to emulate Protektorat with a potential switch to the Ryanair Chase if conditions are suitably testing in March, with connections considering their Cheltenham Festival options following his excellent King George third.
The dual Grade 1 winner led at the penultimate fence in last year's Gold Cup before finishing fourth, but on Thursday his owner Andy Edwards revealed he could tackle the shorter distance of the Ryanair this time around.
Protektorat finished third and fifth in a pair of Gold Cups before triumphing in the Thursday showpiece last year and, while L'Homme Presse is already a festival winner over three miles in the 2022 Brown Advisory, soft or heavy ground could tempt connections to follow suit.
