Just two winners separate the two leading apprentices - but who has the better chance as the title race enters its final days?

The race to become this year's champion apprentice jockey in Britain is an exciting one. What was a one-winner lead for Sean Dylan Bowen over closest challenger Joe Leavy has grown to two before either even took their rides on Tuesday after the title leader was awarded victory in Saturday's Cesarewitch following the disqualification of Alphonse Le Grande.

The title race ends on Saturday and we've looked at who they ride in the next couple of days ahead of its thrilling finale. . .

The score before racing on Tuesday: Bowen 42-40 Leavy

Tuesday

After a winner at Wolverhampton on Monday kept up his slender lead, Bowen heads to Leicester for three rides to try to put some daylight between himself and Leavy again.

All three of his mounts are double-figure prices, but his best chance of a winner could be on Tex in the 7f novice stakes (3.58). Trained by George Baker, the three-year-old ran an encouraging race when sixth as an 100-1 outsider at Windsor on his debut last month.

Bowen's other mounts include Liberty Mountain in the 7f seller (4.30) and Andromedas Kingdom in the mile handicap (5.35). The jockey has winning form on the latter after they scored at Nottingham in June.

A double at Wolverhampton continued Leavy's recent strong run, with the rider operating at a 27 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight. He has only one ride at Leicester but has a strong chance of notching another important win.

He partners the Stan Moore-trained Keep Singing in the mile nursery (2.58). The son of Kameko is yet to win in eight starts but is a leading contender following his second at Southwell last time.

Crucially, off the track Bowen could be set to add to his tally following Saturday's dramatic Cesarewitch result.

The BHA whip review committee are meeting after Jamie Powell's winning ride on Alphonse Le Grande was referred to them for appearing to break the whip rules. If he is found to have used his whip ten times, four above the permitted level, then the horse will be disqualified and victory will be awarded to the Bowen-ridden Manxman.

While the action at Leicester could be key, Bowen might not ride a winner there but still manage to increase his lead on the day.

Wednesday

This could be the day Leavy makes serious inroads in his title charge as he has some well-fancied mounts at Kempton while Bowen does not ride on the day.

Leavy's leading hope looks to be Eupator for Richard Hannon in the 7f novice stakes (5.15). The juvenile made an encouraging debut when third in a heavy-ground Salisbury maiden this month.

He also rides for Hannon in the 6f handicap (7.45) aboard Circe. The three-year-old must bounce back from two poor efforts but is just 3lb higher than when winning at Newbury in July.

Leavy is also jocked up to ride Keep Singing in the opening division of the mile nursery, but she would be unlikely to take her chance if she races at Leicester today.

The title race looks like it will end at Catterick, with both riders booked to ride there, and not at Ascot on Saturday, but the apprentices' championship is set for a thrilling conclusion.
