James Owen hopeful 'fantastic' Wimbledon Hawkeye is ready to serve up a treat in Futurity Trophy
James Owen said the exciting Wimbledon Hawkeye is progressing with every piece of work as he prepares to test his Classic credentials in Britain’s final Group 1 of the season on Saturday.
The son of Kameko is the general 7-2 favourite for Doncaster's Futurity Trophy after landing the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last time. That was his first Group success after chasing home Betfred 2,000 Guineas favourite The Lion In Winter in the Acomb Stakes at York.
"He's trained well since the Royal Lodge and looks fantastic," said Owen. "He did a nice piece of work on Saturday and James Doyle came to ride him. I was most impressed by the way he went through the race at Newmarket; he never looked like being beaten at any stage of that race.
