'It's positive we've had a bit less racing' - summer jumps field sizes most competitive in 15 years
Fewer races were run over jumps this summer but field sizes were at their healthiest level in 15 years during the months of June, July and August, according to BHA industry statistics.
In an effort to create more competitive racing, 300 jump races and 20 meetings were removed from this year's jumps programme, while the summer break was extended to 19 days.
A total of 410 races was run over jumps between June 1 and August 31, down from 484 last season and, excluding 2020, the lowest number since 354 races were contested in 2007.
