'It's been a crazy ten months but I'm back where I want to be' - Oli Stammers returns to saddle after weight battle
Oli Stammers has reflected on the challenges that forced the young jockey to take a ten-month break from the saddle after bouncing back with a winner at Newcastle on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old, who scored aboard Evening Story for Grant Tuer, decided to take a step back at the end of last season due to struggles with his weight, and only returned to riding full time last month.
"Last year things were going well for me," said Stammers. "Since riding out my claim, my career was in the best position it had been. I was getting plenty of support from the main people I rode for in Charlie Johnston and Grant Tuer, but I was finding things difficult. I've always had to manage my weight and had my own way of doing it, but last year it became a real battle.
