'It'll continue to thrive' - Rod Street says Champions Day is in good hands as he bids farewell to fixture he helped create
Rod Street, the chief executive of British Champions Series, said on Sunday that Qipco British Champions Day is “in the best possible hands” as he prepares to step down from his role at the end of the year.
Street, who left his position as chief executive of Great British Racing in May, has overseen every running of Champions Day since its creation in 2011 and said he took great pride in the development and progress of the meeting.
The initial intention for the day had been for it to act as a “grand finale” to the Flat season as part of a plan to package together 35 of Britain’s best races into a “Champions League of racing that could be sold for mega money” to commercial partners, Street said.
