'I landed on my head but I'm just a bit sore' - Charlie Deutsch escapes serious injury in Ffos Las fall
Jockey Charlie Deutsch was allowed to return home after being taken to hospital following a heavy fall at Ffos Las on Sunday.
Deutsch was sent crashing to the turf after his mount Roger made a mistake at the fourth-last in the 2m handicap chase. The Richard Hobson-trained four-year-old was fatally injured.
Speaking on Monday morning, Deutsch said: "I feel okay, I'm just a bit sore. I landed on my head, but I think I'm all right.
"They took me to hospital in an ambulance and I had an MRI scan, which was all clear, so I came home last night."
The All The Allowances Syndicate-owned Roger was making his chase debut, having won one of his three hurdle starts since coming over from Slovakia.
He held a narrow lead when falling and appearing to bring down Moorefields, which left the way clear for Lermoos Legend to score by 11 lengths.
"It was a real shame about the horse," said Deutsch. "Up to then, he was going perfectly and he had an engine in him. Even if he didn't win yesterday, we could have made a plan from there if he'd jumped round."
With the BHA's concussion protocol stating jockeys will be stood down for a minimum of seven days, Deutsch looks set to miss the three-day Paddy Power Gold Cup meeting at Cheltenham, which starts on Friday.
On Saturday week, Deutsch will be hoping to ride last year's winner Royale Pagaille in the Betfair Chase at Haydock, which is the first domestic Grade 1 of the season.
"I'm just taking a day off today and I will speak to Dr Jerry Hill [BHA chief medical adviser] and see what he says," the jockey said.
