'I couldn't be prouder' - Jack Berry inducted into Qipco British Champions Series Hall of Fame

Former jockey, trainer and racing's greatest fundraiser Jack Berry has been inducted into the Qipco British Champions Series Hall of Fame.

He is just the third person to be recognised in the special contributor category, following Queen Elizabeth II and owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah.

Berry has been a pioneer for the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) and in 1996 he was awarded an MBE for charitable services and services to racing.

"To be inducted into the Hall of Fame is a huge honour," said Berry. "I always knew I wanted to be a jockey from when I was five-years-old and now, at almost 87, to be added to such a list of horses and humans who have had such an impact on the sport is truly humbling.

"I’m certainly in good company; to even be mentioned in the same breath as Prince Khalid Abdullah, Sir Henry Cecil, the Queen and my old pal Lester Piggott is some achievement and I couldn’t be prouder."

Piggott, Cecil, Vincent O'Brien, Frankie Dettori, Pat Eddery, Willie Carson, Steve Cauthen, Aidan O'Brien and Sir Michael Stoute are among 12 people to have been inducted into the hall of fame.

As well as Berry, Goldikova has also been named as the latest inductee, joining the likes of Frankel, Brigadier Gerard, Nijinsky and Galileo. Trained in France by Freddy Head, Goldikova won the Breeders' Cup Mile three times in a row between 2008 and 2010.

In Europe, she won 11 Group 1s, including four successive runnings of the Prix Rothschild at Deauville. In total, she won 14 times at the highest level, including victories in the Queen Anne and Falmouth Stakes in Britain, and in 27 starts, she finished out of the first three places just once.

Goldikova was owned and bred by the Wertheimer brothers, Alain and Gérard, who said: "We're very touched and honoured by the upcoming induction of our champion Goldikova into the Hall of Fame and this mark of distinction reflects the value of her career.

"Having her statue at our farm in France, a permanent photo in the main entrance at Deauville, an induction to the American Hall of Fame a few years ago and now the valuable one at the British Hall of Fame, represents a lot to us, our team and all those involved in what she achieved."
