The inside rail is likely to prove the place to be once again in the 19-runner William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (3.20) up the straight course at Redcar.

Horses drawn low have appeared to hold an advantage there for a while and clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson said: "I don't know why it is. We haven't done anything — we have an agronomist coming this month to look at it.

"The GoingStick readings are marginally quicker on the inside but it's not as pronounced as it has been. We've had 62mm of rain since the last meeting, which has helped to level the playing field."

The going was officially soft on Friday but Sanderson said: "It is forecast to stay dry tonight and tomorrow, with the sun bursting through, and it could end up good to soft in places."

No rain was expected at Newmarket, where the ground is expected to be less testing than at last week's Cambridgeshire meeting.

The going was described officially as good to soft, soft in places on the eve of racing.

Nor was any further rainfall forecast at Ascot, where Friday's meeting took place on ground that was called soft, heavy in places on the round course.

Saturday's other British meetings are on the all-weather at Southwell and Wolverhampton and both tracks are reported to be riding standard.
