High-profile Saturday TV fixture at Newmarket sold to York by the Jockey Club
In another shock move that reflects its embattled financial predicament the Jockey Club has sold one of its high-profile Premier Saturday meetings to York, which will now host Newmarket's traditional Criterion Stakes day fixture.
This year's meeting at the July course formed part of the broadcast on ITV Racing alongside Newcastle's Northumberland Plate, but from next year it will instead be staged on the Knavesmire, with a June 28 date fixed for 2025.
Earlier this year the Jockey Club said it was facing "very, very significant financial headwinds" and was cutting its executive contribution to prize-money by around £750,000 in 2024. Five of its fixtures lost their Premier status.
