'He's an impressive horse with a big future' - Wathnan snap up progressive Sprint Cup runner-up
Progressive sprinter Kind Of Blue, beaten just a head in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock, has been added to the ranks of Qatari owners Wathnan Racing.
The three-year-old son of Blue Point, who will continue to be trained by James Fanshawe, was unraced as a juvenile, only starting his career in April with two victories before finishing fourth in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
He has since posted a string of placed efforts in high class sprints, including third in the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh last month.
Kind Of Blue was narrowly beaten by Montassib when last seen at Haydock and is 8-1 third favourite for the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 19.
Richard Brown, the owner’s racing adviser, said: "Kind Of Blue is an impressive horse with a big future. He's been extremely well-handled by James, who knows this family so well. Kind Of Blue’s dam is a sister to two former stable stars, The Tin Man and Deacon Blues, winners of the British Champions Sprint. That could well be the target for this fellow too."
Mike Morris, breeder and former part-owner of Kind Of Blue, said: "It’s an illustrious family and we'll be proud to see Kind of Blue running in the Wathnan Racing silks. It’s always a privilege to work with top people and top horses. Both the breeders and new owners will be cheering equally loud on Champions Day."
