'He looks the type to keep progressing' - why this horse can win the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on Saturday
A selection of our top tipsters have provided their selection for the bet365 Cambridgeshire (3.40) at Newmarket on Saturday . . .
Liberty Lane
By Graeme Rodway, tipster
Finished down the field on quick ground in the race last year, but better suited by easy conditions and there is plenty of rain forecast for Newmarket.
Liberty Lane is due to go up 3lb in future, following a good second on his return from a short break at Doncaster two weeks ago, and this will surely have been his long-term target. He won a course-and-distance handicap in May and is only 4lb higher now.
He has to shoulder top weight, but class is key in big handicaps like this and he can follow Astro King, who won under the biggest weight last season.
Coeur D’Or
By Jonny Pearson, handicapper
Has been running consistently well in big-field handicaps all season, only beaten by more than three lengths on one occasion.
The forecast rain will be no problem for the lightly raced eight-year-old, who won on yielding ground at Galway last year.
A previous distance winner, and an eyecatcher on his previous start over a mile at the Curragh, going back up in trip here should suit and it looks likely that Ryan Moore will take the ride.
Under Siege
By Sam Hardy, tipster
Under Siege is potentially ahead of his mark of 94.
He started off his career finishing runner-up to Economics at Newbury in April and a win at Chelmsford two starts ago would have given him a much-needed boost.
I am willing to put a line through his latest run, where he blew his chances at the start, and he looks the type to keep progressing.
Norwalk Havoc
By Gary Savage, tipster
Jessica Harrington isn't one to tilt at windmills and is an impressive 7-44 with runners in British handicaps in the last five years.
A further nine hit the frame and this unexposed three-year-old can enhance that record on just his eighth start.
He competed in graded races earlier this season but proved his aptitude for this sort of test when runner-up in a big-field handicap at Galway last time.
Any rain will be welcomed, and the booking of Hollie Doyle further enhances confidence as she is 3-6 for the stable.
Theoryofeverything
By Joe Eccles, reporter
There is plenty of rain forecast at Newmarket in the build-up to Saturday's race and that will be a big help for Theoryofeverything, who has gained all three wins on officially soft ground.
David O'Meara's four-year-old is bred to be above-average, being by Frankel and out of Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Persuasive, and comes into this on the back of victory at Ascot where he produced a career-best Racing Post Rating of 101.
He looked value for further than the three-quarter-length winning margin there, and a 4lb penalty should not stop him from following up.
Toimy Son
By Stuart Redding, tipster
This has thrown up some surprise winners in recent years and I fancy Toimy Son to continue that trend.
He proved that big-field handicaps suit ideally with a clear win at Goodwood in August and he is better than his subsequent effort suggests.
Back on the Sussex Downs, he didn’t get a clear run but finished strongly to get within two lengths. A truly run race over this unusual trip will suit.
