Grace McEntee set to return from two months out through injury at Wolverhampton on Saturday
Apprentice jockey Grace McEntee is back from two months out through injury at Wolverhampton on Saturday night, with the immediate goal of riding out her claim, for which she needs eight winners.
McEntee, 23, rides Porfin for her Newmarket-based trainer father Phil in Wolverhampton's 6f handicap (7.30). McEntee has steered her mount to success on three occasions previously.
The 3lb claimer dislocated her sternoclavicular joint, which links the arm and torso, at Kempton on July 12 when she was displaced from the George Boughey-trained Twilight Vision, who suffered a fatal fall at the furlong pole of a mile handicap.
McEntee, who was riding work for Boughey in Newmarket on Friday morning, said: "I'm back tomorrow on stable legend Porfin at Wolverhampton. He's won plenty of races for us and he's the right sort of horse to have my first ride back on. I have eight winners left to ride my claim out so that is my immediate goal and I plan to stick around this winter bar a holiday with my boyfriend Tyler Heard."
On the extent of her injuries, McEntee said: "I dislocated my collarbone into my chest and it's been exactly two months to the day since I had surgery and to be back in that space of time is pretty good. I couldn't have done it without the help of the IJF [Injured Jockeys Fund] and the use of Peter O'Sullevan House. Everyone up there has been extremely helpful to me and to get me back in that time is testament to them."
She added: "I've been back riding out for a week now for George Boughey and my dad Phil, and I passed all my tests and was cleared to ride on Thursday morning. I'm apprenticed to Phil but George has been very supportive of me since I came back from America last November."
Looking ahead, McEntee added: "Beyond Saturday, I've got three rides booked for next Wednesday but hopefully a few more before then. I'll get my agent Jack Inkpen on the case and no doubt I'll be driving him mad over the next few days!"
