Sir Alex Ferguson is excited by the formidable hand he holds in Saturday's Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.20) as he bids to complete a remarkable across-the-world big-race double in the space of less than 24 hours.

The legendary Manchester United manager and fellow owner Ged Mason are in Bahrain to watch Spirit Dancer, who they own with Peter Done, aim for the $1 million Bahrain International Trophy on Friday. But their eyes will also be on Cheltenham.

The duo are set to be represented by star performer Protektorat, who they own alongside John and Lisa Hales, in the £150,000 handicap chase, as well as by Il Ridoto, who they also part-own.
