John and Thady Gosden will open their stable for the first time this Sunday for Newmarket's tenth annual Henry Cecil Open Weekend, an event that will also feature an appearance from Irish Champion Stakes winner Economics.

The Gosdens' Clarehaven Stables is one of 26 yards scheduled to open its doors in the town, and there will also be a glimpse behind the scenes of Sir Mark Prescott’s base at Heath House for the first time since 2019.

Other stables set to open between 9am and 12:30pm include Charlie Fellowes, Kevin Philippart de Foy, Marco Botti, Michael Bell and Simon and Ed Crisford.

An action-packed Sunday kicks off at 8am on the Warren Hill gallops, sponsored by Tattersalls, when William Haggas is to exercise Economics and fellow Group 1 winner Montassib.

Prescott will no doubt have plenty to say about his Royal Ascot ace Pledgeofallegiance and Group 2 winner Tiffany.

In the afternoon, the hugely popular racing personality showjumping competition, featuring many top jockeys, and the Shetland Pony Grand National take place on the Severals. Both events are sponsored by My Pension Expert.

The open weekend, which this year is raising funds for the Newmarket Housing Trust and Racing Welfare, is officially part of National Racehorse Week and has had a revamp this year, with stables now opening on a biennial basis.

The event's chairman Charlie Fellowes said: "We're delighted to be welcoming visitors back to Newmarket. Our revised format will be introduced for the first time this year, and there has been unprecedented support from trainers opening their doors on a biennial basis.

"We hope visitors will enjoy the action-packed two days we have in store as there really is something for all the family to enjoy.

"Named in honour of the great Sir Henry Cecil, this weekend is all about celebration. We hope people will join us to help raise as much money as possible for our two fantastic charities."

Prices start at £15 per person for a weekend wristband if purchased in advance, or £20 on the day. Children aged 16 and under go free.
