Confirmed runners and riders for the Dewhurst Stakes - plus Saturday's other big races
The Lion In Winter heads a field of six for Saturday's Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes (3.00) at Newmarket as Ballydoyle master trainer Aidan O'Brien bids for a record ninth success in the race.
The two-year-old son of Sea The Stars bids to follow up his Group 3 Acomb Stakes success and extend his unbeaten run to three for O'Brien, who won this contest 12 months ago with the classy City Of Troy. The trainer will also be represented in the race by Expanded and Rock of Cashel as he attempts to land a sixth victory in the race since 2015.
However, Appleby has won this event twice in the past five years and has a strong representation with Shadow Of Light and Ancient Truth. The former lost his winning run when second in the Gimcrack Stakes at York in August, before bouncing back at the top level when scoring in the Middle Park last month.
Ancient Truth comes into this race on the back of three successive victories as his unbeaten sequence was extended to three when he took the Group 2 Superlative Stakes in July.
The son of Dubawi beat Seagulls Eleven, who reopposes for Hugo Palmer and runs under the Two Plus Three Two Plus Four banner, a syndicate owned by a number of Brighton & Hove Albion footballers including James Milner and Danny Welbeck.

Mullins takes aim at Cesarewitch
Willie Mullins will saddle ante-post favourite Sea Of Sands in the highly competitive Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (3.40), which has attracted a strong field of 25.
The six-year-old, who will be partnered by William Buick, got off to a winning start for the champion trainer when comfortably scoring over hurdles at Listowel last month.
Chief market rival Jacovec Cavern has been declared for Emmet Mullins, while Sixandahalf, Manxman and Ndaawi are also prominent in the market.
