Bryony Frost back in Britain for ride in Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on Friday - while Grade 1 winner set to make chasing debut on undercard
Bryony Frost will return to riding in Britain on Friday after being booked to ride the Paul Nicholls-trained Sans Bruit in the Grade 2 BetMGM Haldon Gold Cup (2.25) at Exeter.
The jockey spent the summer in France and is set for her first outing on home soil since her appearance at Newton Abbot on August 22. She has winning form on Sans Bruit after the pair landed a Grade 3 at Aintree's Grand National meeting in April.
Frost switched across the English Channel in May after being appointed retained jockey in France for leading owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede. She has ridden ten winners since and spent time on the sidelines after suffering a broken collarbone following a fall at Le Lion D'Angers in June.
She is back riding in Britain for the first time in almost three months and will also partner Asian Spice for her father Jimmy in the 2m2½f mares' handicap hurdle (3.00).
Joe Tizzard is responsible for two of the six declared runners for the feature Grade 2 contest on the card as the trainer bids to win the race for a second year.
Tizzard, who was successful with subsequent Clarence House Chase winner Elixir De Nutz 12 months ago, saddles JPR One and Scarface in the £100,000 contest, with the former set for his first appearance since finishing seventh to Gaelic Warrior in the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
The seven-year-old won two of his five starts last season, including the Grade 2 Lightning Novices' Chase at Lingfield in January, while he also scored on his rules debut at Exeter in November 2021.
Stablemate Scarface will be partnered by Harry Cobden for the first time, with regular rider Brendan Powell booked to ride JPR One. A winner of three of his eight starts last season, he made his seasonal reappearance when fifth behind Calico at Cheltenham last month.
Harry Skelton has taken an early lead at the top of the jockeys' championship and will partner four-time winner Etalon for brother Dan Skelton, who will also be represented by last season's Greatwood Gold Cup scorer Heltenham.
Djelo, who won three times last season and finished third behind Grey Dawning in the Turners Novice Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, will make his first outing of the term for Venetia Williams.
Captain Teague set for chase debut
The exciting Captain Teague will make his first start over fences on the undercard at Exeter as he is one of three declared for the 3m Silver Bowl Novices' Chase (1.50).
A winner of three of his six starts for Nicholls, the six-year-old showed his class when scoring on his hurdling debut in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow last October. He then finished second in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham before striking in the Grade 1 Challow Novices' Hurdle at Newbury. His last outing came when tenth of 13 in the Albert Bartlett at the festival in March.
He faces Daring Plan and the Skelton-trained Deafening Silence at Exeter, the latter is set for his first appearance since scoring in a Sandown Group 2 in December 2023.
