Comment: Straight talker Jim Mullen will have to deliver home truths in new job at the Jockey Club

The Jockey Club's original hunt to appoint a new chief executive alighted on an applicant from the other side of the Atlantic until a late change of heart scuppered its plans.
Its second attempt has unearthed a new leader from much closer to home, albeit one who does not appear to be a natural cultural fit with the venerable organisation.
The Jockey Club is one of the driving forces behind Racecourse Media Group, where Jim Mullen has been a non-executive director since 2019. He will therefore be well aware of the pressures facing racecourses, especially the Jockey Club, and will be tasked with turning the ship around.
