City Of Troy oozes class as he completes Southwell gallop ahead of Breeders' Cup Classic
All roads now lead to the Breeders' Cup Classic after a bumper crowd watched City Of Troy complete his key workout at Southwell on Friday.
The three-year-old, ridden by Ryan Moore, broke from American stalls alongside Congo River, Democracy, Master Of The Hunt and Edwardian.
Held up after emerging from the stalls, City Of Troy worked his way through the five-runner field on the bridle to lead as they turned for home before stretching ten lengths clear in the final furlong.
Aidan O'Brien decided to work his stable star on the Tapeta to help him to adapt to the challenge of a first race on dirt at Del Mar on November 2.
More than 1,000 people turned up to watch the son of Justify, who was an impressive winner of the Derby, Eclipse and International Stakes.
Coolmore's Paul Smith said: "Southwell have done a great job and I'm so pleased everybody has been able to come and see him. We're hoping it provides a bit of insight into what City Of Troy does."
On City Of Troy's career: "They did a remarkable job after Newmarket and since then it's been pretty smooth sailing. He's conquered all so far and we're really looking forward to the next challenge. The Breeders' Cup Classic is a tough nut to crack but he's by Justify and has a big chance."
O'Brien also worked Giant's Causeway, who was beaten by a neck in the 2000 Breeders' Cup Classic, and Galileo, who was sixth, at Southwell.
"Connections seemed happy with City Of Troy's Southwell experience, and although the Classic itself will be an entirely new test for the Derby winner, he will head to Del Mar as big race favourite, certainly on this side of the Atlantic," said Coral's David Stevens.
Breeders’ Cup Classic (Del Mar, November 2)
Coral: 5-2 City Of Troy, 4 Fierceness, 8 Forever Young, 10 Highland Falls, Muth, 12 Sierra Leone, Thorpedo Anna, 14 Dornoch, 16 Dragoon Guard, National Treasure, Nysos
