British Champions Day stars Charyn and Kyprios have improved their chances of being crowned the Cartier Horse Of The Year next month after their victories at Ascot on Saturday.

Charyn (192) overtook Bluestocking (152) in the standings when surpassing the Pretty Polly and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine's number of Group 1 wins this season with his two-length win in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Roger Varian's star miler's wins in the Queen Anne Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois as well as his second-placed efforts in other Group 1s such as the Lockinge Stakes and Prix du Moulin have contributed to him topping the standings.

Kyrpios (168), who has more more Group 1s than other other horse for Aidan O'Brien courtesy of his eighth top-level success in the Prix du Cadran, followed up that Longchamp win with victory in the Group 2 Long Distance Cup. That seventh win of the year means the six-year-old is poised to regain the Stayer award he won in 2022 at the awards cereomony at the Dorchester Hotel on November 20.

Leading three-year-old colt City Of Troy (144) has the chance of closing the gap in the horse of the year standings before then, when he attempts to provide O'Brien with a breakthrough success in the Breeders' Cup Classic on the final start of his career.

Kind Of Blue (54) is fifth in the sprinting division headed by Nunthorpe and Flying Five winner Bradsell (80), who could confirm his superiority in the division at Del Mar. Kind Of Blue justified Wathnan Racing's decision to purchase her after finishing runner-up in the Sprint Cup when going one better in the Champions Sprint to record her first Group 1 victory.

Dewhurst and Middle Park winner Shadow Of Light (72) and Fillies' Miles heroine Desert Flower (48) are second to Ballydoyle's Whistlejacket (80) and Desert Flower (48) for Godolphin in the juvenile colt and filly standings respectively.
