Memorable 2024 complete for Bluestocking as star mare is crowned horse of the year at ROA annual awards

Bluestocking's remarkable 2024 was capped off in style when she was crowned horse of the year at the Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) annual awards ceremony on Thursday evening.
The Juddmonte-owned mare, who claimed three Group 1 victories this year, culminating in Arc glory on her final start, was awarded the top prize voted on by members of the ROA and followed on from her success earlier in the evening in the outstanding filly and mare category.
The award ceremony, held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, also saw JP McManus claim his first victory in the owner of the year contest after his Grand National triumph with I Am Maximus in April. The Aintree winner was also awarded the jumps special achievement award.
McManus, who was the leading owner in Britain last term, enjoyed a lucrative season with Grade 1 strikes with the likes of Jonbon, Fact To File and Inothewayurthinkin.
Charyn, City Of Troy and Kyprios were among the Flat winners in their respective distance categories, while the outstanding chaser and hurdler awards went the way of the Willie Mullins-trained pair of Galopin Des Champs and State Man.
Grey Dawning and Lossiemouth were the winning novices alongside outstanding Flat juvenile Lake Victoria.
The evening also included a special achievement award for the Flat, which went the way of Amedeo Dal Pos, head lad for Dylan Cunha. Alongside his work at the Newmarket yard, Dal Pos is also the owner and carer of Prague, who won the Joel Stakes in September.
ROA president Charlie Parker said: "Tonight’s awards are a chance for us to recognise and celebrate some of the outstanding performances made by our wonderful horses across this year. On behalf of everyone at the ROA, I would like to congratulate all the owners who have won this evening.
"These historic awards are now in their fifth decade and continue to hold a special place in the hearts of British racing, and it is wonderful to see the range of ownership entities and people that have been represented on the winner's podium."
