Another new jockey for Ambiente Friendly as Christophe Soumillon replaces Robert Havlin for French mission
French racing ace Christophe Soumillon is to take over from Robert Havlin on Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly when he drops down in class for his next outing, with connections planning to supplement for the Group 2 Qatar Prix Niel at Longchamp on Sunday week.
Havlin was called up to replace Callum Shepherd in the week of the Epsom Derby in June before the new combination finished second to City Of Troy. The new pairing then finished third in the Irish Derby and tenth in the Juddmonte International at York, where the son of Gleneagles was found to have got his tongue over his bit
The Gredley family-owned colt who will be stepping back up to a mile and a half in the contest which is billed as a trial for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and trainer James Fanshawe's son and assistant Tom said on Tuesday: "I was asked by the owners to get a French jockey for Ambiente Friendly's next race in the Prix Niel and we've booked Christophe Soumillon."
