Abbaye under consideration for classy sprinter Believing - with smart juvenile Simmering also in contention for Longchamp
Believing and Simmering could be heading to Longchamp next month following their Group 1 defeats at last week's Irish Champions Festival.
The Prix de l'Abbaye on October 6 is under consideration for Believing after she finished a length and a quarter behind Bradsell in the Flying Five Stakes. She has raced in many of the big five-furlong races this season, including when second in the Nunthorpe and winning the Sapphire Stakes.
"Believing looks super and has come out of the Flying Five in great shape," said trainer George Boughey. "I think the Prix de l'Abbaye has to be considered. The ground is a question mark and the draw is a question mark.
"She's got two opportunities left, the l'Abbaye and the Breeders' Cup. Neither are perfect for her, but neither was the Curragh or Goodwood. A lot of tracks don't suit her racing style and she keeps pulling out more. There's lots to look forward to still."
Simmering also finished second at the Curragh last Sunday, coming home a length and a quarter behind Lake Victoria in the Moyglare Stud Stakes under Dylan Browne McMonagle. It was the two-year-old's second attempt at seven furlongs after a victory at Deauville.
After finishing third on her debut, Simmering was second to Fairy Godmother in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot before two Group wins on the bounce in the Princess Margaret Stakes and Prix du Calvados. She could be set for a return to France in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac.
"She ran a great race and we're happy with her," said trainer Ollie Sangster. "The winner looks like a good filly, as do the fillies in behind her. It was a very good race.
"She'll either run in the Boussac or we'll think about the Breeders' Cup. Those will possibly be the next two options for her."
