I'm wondering if Christy Grassick gets paid overtime on Cartier awards night. At the very least I hope his Bupa account is in order, because those steps up to the stage don't climb themselves, and poor Christy's knees must have taken a terrible pounding.
First up for Coolmore's designated accepter of trophies was Derby winner City Of Troy, a shoo-in for three-year-old colt, with the promise of more to come, at least tonight, if not next year. Then Kyprios, Cartier stayer, to nobody's surprise. And Lake Victoria, the Breeders' Cup marvel who couldn't but claim the two-year-old filly prize.
Our man had a little assistance at the finish from John Magnier's daughter Sam Pearson and her husband Charlie, who were there to help lift City Of Troy's Cartier Horse of the Year prize, but it was still a busy old night.
