William Buick makes it six wins in a row after a fabulous four-timer

William Buick added to a double at Lingfield on Wednesday with an eventful four-timer to make it six wins on the spin.

Having got the day off to the perfect start on the Michael Bell-trained Tall Order, who finally got his head in front at the fourth time of asking in the 1m3½f maiden, Buick was hoping for the same result on Godolphin’s two-year-old New Kingdom.

Making his second start in the mile novice stakes, New Kingdom looked set to continue Buick's winning streak before the Kevin Ryan-trained Dark Moon Rising challenged, with a collision between the two prompting a stewards' inquiry.

The placings remained unchanged and Buick believed justice had been done. "No question it was the right decision," the rider told Racing TV.

"There were two people on the middle of the track quite close to the inside running rail which my horse spotted and shifted out. If that hadn’t have happened my horse would have won a little bit better so it was the right result.”

Things were then more straightforward for Buick as the classy Al Suhail got back to winning ways in the 7f conditions stakes, breaking a course record in the process, before he partnered the Ed Walker-trained True Scarlet to take the 1m2f fillies’ handicap.

Buick currently lies second in the jockeys' title race behind reigning champion Oisin Murphy.

Fight in form

The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Without A Fight got back to winning ways in the feature 1m3½f handicap.

Fourth to Hukum in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes on his previous start, Without A Fight was partnered by Adam Kirby for the first time and he steered the four-year-old to a comfortable length-and-a-half success.
