Blow for Harrington as Torcedor sold to continue career in Germany
Torcedor, a dual Group 3 winner and placed three times at Group 1 level for Jessica Harrington, has been sold to continue his career in Germany with Andreas Wohler.
David Ellis, manager of the Te Akau syndicate who owned the six-year-old, revealed news of the sale.
He said: "In the last few days we sold Torcedor after receiving an enormous offer for a six-year-old gelding. The deal has been completed.
"We wish the new owners well with him – they are a consortium syndicate based in Germany and I'd say they would look at the Melbourne Cup for sure.
"He is quite an exciting horse, he goes to the front, he never stops trying and is a very gutsy horse."
By Fastnet Rock out of a sister to champion stayer Yeats, Torcedor finished third in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June before getting to within half a length of Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup on his most recent start.
Torcedor's other Group 1-placed effort came last year, when he was second in the Irish St Leger. His Group 3 wins were achieved in last year's Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan and in the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot in May.

Purchased by Ellis for €70,000 at the 2013 Deauville Yearling Sales in France and originally trained by David Wachman, Torcedor was owned by Sir Patrick Hogan, Sir Peter Vela, Mohammed Moussa and Laurie Laxon.
