Cheltenham Festival 2023 ante-post tips

So, you've got your free bets at the ready, now what do you bet on? Here are some of the best Cheltenham Festival 2023 ante-post tips our experts have to offer . . .

The Real Whacker
Brown Advisory Novices' Chase (2.10 Cheltenham, March 15)

A seven-year-old who has raced just six times in his career, he gave notice of his potential over hurdles when second in the River Don at Doncaster 12 months ago. Chasing was always going to be his game, though, and he is really improving now, winning both starts at Cheltenham. The Grade 2 Dipper has proved a cracking guide for the festival of late, and three of the last five home-based winners of this event ran in that contest, including two in the last three years.

Balco Coastal
Turners Novices' Chase (1.30 Cheltenham, March 16)

I think Balco Coastal's second in the Scilly Isles earlier this month has been largely ignored. Rated 133 over hurdles, Nicky Henderson's seven-year-old looked to have plenty to prove at Sandown coming off the back of a novice handicap chase victory off the same mark but he stepped up on that effort with an excellent round of jumping to run Brown Advisory favourite Gerri Colombe close.
James Stevens

Banbridge
Turners Novices' Chase (1.30 Cheltenham, March 16)

Bookmakers can often react far too hastily to a defeat, and his position behind Mighty Potter is not evidence to suggest he's not up to this level when conditions suit at a track that clearly does after last season's victory in the Martin Pipe and this season's Arkle Trial. He might be ground-dependent in the opposite way to Mighty Potter, but he's also 16-1 and that looks way too big considering I can't see why he would go anywhere else.
Paul Kealy

Klassical Dream
Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle (3.30 Cheltenham, March 16)

We haven't seen much of him lately, but his neck second to Teahupoo in the Hatton's Grace, with Honeysuckle two and a half lengths behind, shows him to be every bit as good as he has ever been, and the price discrepancy between him and the winner is daft, especially as Klassical Dream is the one who will have no problems with better ground.
Paul Kealy

Jetara
Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle (4.50 Cheltenham, March 16)

Ashroe Diamond will have a 5lb penalty for her Solerina victory when she beat Jetara by a length and a quarter. That rival is 16-1 in the market which, given she'll be 5lb better off with Ashroe Diamond, doesn't make much sense.
James Stevens

Noble Yeats
Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.30 Cheltenham, March 17)

At this stage, the one I like most is the Grand National winner Noble Yeats. At Aintree, he and Any Second Now came well clear of some top-class horses and Noble Yeats looked better than ever in the Many Clouds last time. I wouldn't underestimate that form as he inflicted Ahoy Senor's first defeat at Aintree there, the runner-up Dashel Drasher came out and ran second in the Relkeel Hurdle and Sounds Russian failed narrowly to give lumps of weight to a big improver next time.

Racing Post Ratings have Noble Yeats some 7lb behind the likes of Galopin Des Champs and Bravemansgame but he's improving all the time and, unlike them, the one thing we can be sure of is that he will stay on strongly up the hill.
