Connections of Bayside Boy, 4-1 second-favourite for the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, admit they may be taking on 'a beast' in odds-on favourite Native Trail on the Rowley Mile.

The Roger Varian-trained juvenile advanced his own claims for the seven-furlong showdown, which is the centrepiece of the two-day Future Champions Festival, by landing the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month.

The son of New Bay overcame an odds-on hotpot himself that day when putting Reach For The Moon in the shade, but owner Teme Valley's racing manager Richard Ryan has healthy respect for the opposition in this weekend's championship test, won last year by St Mark's Basilica.
