2022 Irish Derby at the Curragh: the runners, the odds, the verdict
The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (3.45 Curragh) is Saturday's feature race in Britain and Ireland and this year's running looks a cracker.
Oaks heroine Tuesday, a late addition to the field, takes on the boys including Derby third Westover, but can she come out on top? Here's our runner-by-runner guide to the Curragh Classic.
1 Boundless Ocean
Likely to get his turn at Listed or Group level in due course but up against it here
Trainer: Jim Bolger
Jockey: Kevin Manning
Odds: 50-1
2 French Claim
Has a small chance if the forecast rain arrives early but others look far more likely
Trainer: Paddy Twomey
Jockey: Billy Lee
Odds: 33-1
3 Glory Daze
1m4f should suit him and likely to be better suited by this track; could outrun his odds
Trainer: Andrew Oliver
Jockey: Ronan Whelan
Odds: 50-1
4 Hannibal Barca
Should come on plenty for the Gallinule and a viable alternative to the two market leaders
Trainer: Joseph O'Brien
Jockey: Shane Crosse
Odds: 8-1
5 Lionel
Has to step up again and considerably so but very progressive and an interesting runner
Trainer: David Menuisier
Jockey: Jamie Spencer
Odds: 10-1
6 Piz Badile
Another likely to be better suited by this track and cannot be left out of calculations
Trainer: Donnacha O'Brien
Jockey: Gavin Ryan
Odds: 9-1
7 Westover
Most unlucky-in-running third in the Cazoo Derby; deserving of his place in the betting
Trainer: Ralph Beckett
Jockey: Colin Keane
Odds: 7-4
8 Tuesday
Oaks winner is the top-rated in the race and adds much intrigue; significant claims here
Trainer: Aidan O'Brien
Jockey: Ryan Moore
Odds: 11-8 favourite
