Wolverhampton Placepot picks: Richard Birch's fancies for the all-weather card

It makes sense to have a crack at the £100,000 guaranteed Wolverhampton Placepot, with Al Suil Eile and Cailin Saoirse selected in the opening apprentice handicap (5.30).

The first-named should be spot on after three runs back from a long absence, and will appreciate the drop back in trip.

Dual course-and-distance winner Cailin Saoirse is nicely drawn in stall five and remains competitively treated with talented apprentice Taylor Fisher taking off 5lb.

Five of Andrew Balding’s last six runners before Sunday's Southwell meeting had won – the other finished third – so Saorla is worth including in the fillies’ handicap (6.00) with Piffle.

Bank on Medici Chapel in the fillies’ novice stakes (6.30) for John and Thady Gosden, while Debydinks stands out for Keith Dalgleish and Callum Rodriguez in the classified stakes (7.00).

Bellagio Man caught the eye at Newcastle last Monday when runner-up to Adeb. He appeals in the 5f handicap (7.30), with Lihou, winner of the race in 2021, providing strong back-up.

Win Win Power has a poor draw in stall 12 to overcome in the second classified stakes (8.00), so rely on course-and-distance winner Guitar to strike the right note.
