Wolverhampton Placepot picks: Richard Birch has three bankers in his perm
It makes sense to bank on Hit Mac in the 5f apprentice handicap (4.20), the opening leg of the Wolverhampton Placepot which carries guaranteed money of £100,000.
A last-time-out course-and-distance winner, he boasts form figures in all-weather handicaps of 2322221, and is ridden by red-hot Billy Loughnane.
The classified stakes (4.55) is less straightforward, but Loughnane’s mount Well Prepared brings a solid enough profile and merits inclusion along with All Aboard, a low-mileage gelding who is equipped with cheekpieces for the first time.
The Charlie Appleby-trained Glittering Lights will have plenty of supporters in the fillies' novice stakes (5.30), but Renesmeearguably possesses the best piece of form when third to Revenite at Ascot in September.
The winner, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth have all graced the winner's enclosure since.
Berwick Law and Densetsu, both proven performers at Wolverhampton, are selected for the 1m1½f handicap (6.00), with Man Made Of Smoke and Fadithe chosen two in the 0-55 mile handicap (6.30).
One Step Beyond has won on his last two trips to Wolverhampton. It would be madness to look elsewhere in the 0-70 1m½f handicap (7.00).
