Wolverhampton Placepot picks: Richard Birch eyes the £100,000 guarantee

Punters chasing the £100,000 Placepot guarantee at Wolverhampton have a tricky first leg to negotiate.

The seven runners in the 1m1½f handicap (4.20) include several thoroughly unexposed three-year-olds from big stables, with Smooth Ryder and Marmara Star perhaps the two to focus on.

Aljari, winner of four of his 22 starts, has slipped down the weights and appeals in the 7f handicap (4.55). Follow Your Heart, runner-up on his last three outings, also enters calculations.

The Perfect Crown has plenty in hand on official ratings now that he drops in grade for the claimer (5.30) and ought to take plenty of beating.

Barenboim boasts form figures of 121611 between ten and 12 furlongs since joining David O'Meara. He has soared in the weights as a result, but could have even more to offer in the 2m½f handicap (6.00).

Withhold, although not the force of old, retains plenty of ability and could give him most to do.

Danger Alert possesses the best form in the 5f maiden (6.30), while Hit Mac, who has finished out of the first three only twice in nine starts, can register a first success in the 5f handicap (7.00) from stall three.
