Wise to side with the one horse guaranteed to run well in the Eider

With the cap on match bets set to 15 lengths, the spread in a race like the Eider is of limited interest. There is a good chance of the bet being settled at the extremes, which is something punters need to be prepared for when staking.

It also makes the objective especially clear. Find one that will run well, ideally against a rival with a bit more to prove. That is what is presented in the Sam's Adventure/Crosspark match bet.

From a handicapping perspective, Sam's Adventure is more interesting and a worthy favourite if you think he will suit conditions. Personally, I am not so sure. His Tommy Whittle win had the emphasis on speed, so far as 3m chases in the mud go, and he also seems especially adept in the deepest ground. Conditions for the Eider will be soft, but no worse.

Crosspark is less attractive as an improver, but as a creditable performer he is the nap of the field. He won this race two years ago and has been second on all four runs this season. If you are doing a Placepot, he should be the first name on your perm. If you are more inclined to the indices, he is a dream match-up with the likes of Sam's Adventure.
