Not only was Tiger Roll starting to earn the reputation of being one of the worst winners of the Triumph Hurdle, he was beginning to look like one of the least talented horses ever to win at the Cheltenham Festival. The form figures of his last eight races over hurdles read P643040P and he seemed to have fallen out of love with the game.

But Gordon Elliott has worked his magic yet again and somehow a classy novice chaser has come out of the hat. The way he was supported for his chasing debut at Ballinrobe in May suggested schooling had gone well and he comfortably disposed of a useful field before supplementing that success in even more stylish fashion in a novice heat at Kilbeggan.

There was substance to that victory as he readily accounted for Valyssa Monterg, who reopposes today, and was value for much more than the winning margin. His jumping was a little low at times at Kilbeggan but he will get away with that technique around Killarney and he will take some stopping in the concluding 2m6f novice chase (8.50).
