The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday afternoon
BANKER
A nine-length winner of this race back in 2018 off a mark of 122, Monsieur Lecoq has largely been tried at Graded level ever since and was far from disgraced when hitting the frame in the Imperial Cup, Greatwood Hurdle and Betfair Exchange Trophy last year. Two prep runs this year in a beginners' chase and Listed hurdle in France haven't gone to plan but he drops down in grade and reverts to his favourite course and distance in a race he should be winning. The shape of the race (Totterdown likely to set a decent gallop) will suit him and he has cast-iron claims of providing trainer Jane Williams with another winner.
DARK HORSE
A case can be made for a number of these veterans but it looks like Valtor has been laid out with this race in mind and he returns to a suitable track after qualifying at the left-handed Warwick last time. He is much better this way around and has been dropped to a mark of 145, which is 3lb lower than when he romped home on debut for Nicky Henderson at Ascot two years ago. His largely unexposed profile suggests returning to that kind of form isn't out of the question.
