The John and Thady Gosden-trained Palace Pier has been largely underrated throughout his career despite proving nigh-on unbeatable every time he hits the racetrack. His sole defeat from ten starts came in this race last year, but bottomless ground and a lost shoe gave him plausible reasons for a below-par effort. He still finished third, don't forget, and has been untouchable since. On ratings he has 4lb in hand of Baaeed, who gives off the impression he's a good horse but is yet to beat rivals of Palace Pier's calibre.

This son of Kingman whiffs of a Group horse in a handicap, much like his stablemate Sunray Major, and is surely chucked in off a mark of 103 on just his second run in the sphere. An easy winner on his first two starts, which includes an easy defeat of 2021 Lincoln favourite Eastern World at Newmarket last July, King Leonidas was then sent off the 9-4 for the Jersey at Royal Ascot. He didn't produce his true running there and had a 457-day break afterwards, suggesting something was amiss. He shaped nicely at Newbury last time and has drawn well to get back to winning ways.
