The Punt Daily: Robbie Wilders' two each-way plays at Cheltenham on Thursday

EACH-WAY PLAY

Alaphilippe (2.10 Cheltenham)

The recent Irish dominance in the Pertemps Final is expected to end with Alaphilippe, who is surely well handicapped off a mark of 138, one 2lb lower than when he qualified for this. He tanked through that Warwick race and looked the likeliest winner jumping the last but faded into fifth. It was his seasonal return on soft ground over a furlong further and one imagines he was slightly undercooked for it, so a 2lb drop is absolutely ideal. A 14-length winner of the same Grade 2 Hillcrest landed recently just three starts back, Alaphilippe was entered in the Stayers' Hurdle earlier this season but taking the handicap route looks the wise decision. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw him line up in the 3m Grade 1 at Aintree later in the season.

EACH-WAY PLAY

Mister Coffey (5.30 Cheltenham)

The booking of Sam Waley-Cohen to ride this highly regarded seven-year-old is significant in this amateur riders' race as he would be one of the most senior jockeys in the field. A step up in trip could bring about serious improvement for Mister Coffey, who is undoubtedly well handicapped off 137 having finished second in a Grade 1 at Sandown last time. Mister Coffey stayed on from a mile back to reel in third Pic D'Orhy over 2m4f and that one followed up at Grade 2 level next time. He has produced RPRs in the 140s on his last six starts over much shorter trips and a double-figure price in a race where six places are up for grabs is well worth taking.
