The Meydan Punt: Nick Driver with three selections for Dubai World Cup night

BANKER

Lord North(3.20 Meydan)

I think the market is all wrong here and Lord North is a great price to win this. He was so impressive when winning as the 11-8 favourite 12 months ago and there is no reason to think he will not do the same this year.

For some, he was below par in the Winter Derby when a short-priced favourite but in my opinion it was a brilliant prep race for this, given he had not run since this race last year.

Schnell Meister is clearly a good horse coming over from Japan but he has to travel and bring his A-game to win this, something we know Lord North is capable of.

Panthalassa may be another danger from Japan and will try to win this from the front, but the way this race might unfold will suit Lord North. He can track Panthalassa and strike in the straight, seeing off the likes of Schnell Meister and Lord Glitters, who will be dashing home from off the pace.

GOOD THING

Al Nefud(12.20 Meydan)

I really like the chances of Al Nefud in the Godolphin Mile on the bare form. Tadhg O'Shea deserts last year's winner Secret Ambition to ride Al Nefud and those stablemates have been given the plum draws in two and three.

One of the aforementioned horses will likely set the pace, perhaps Secret Ambition, and Al Nefud could be in the prime position to sit just off the pace and strike in the home straight.

The form reads well for the selection as he was the only one to get close to Hot Rod Charlie last time out and that horse is second favourite for the Dubai World Cup itself. The third from that race, Desert Wisdom, went and won the Burj Nahaar on Super Saturday.

The form for the rest of the field is very patchy, with Storm Damage the only other potential danger, but he is on the dirt for the first time and that is a huge question mark.

EYECATCHER

Dubai Honour (3.55 Meydan)

I think the prices in the Dubai Sheema Classic are the wrong way round for the majority of the runners and Dubai Honour is a solid price. His form is top class and is unlucky not to have a Group 1 in the bag.

Sealiway got first run on him in the Champion Stakes at Ascot after he swooped past the previous year's winner Mishriff and Derby winner Adayar, and he then flew home in the Hong Kong Cup after failing to get a gap at a crucial stage.

Any double-figure price is simply too big for Dubai Honour. Yibir is too short in my opinion – he won an average Breeders' Cup Turf – and of the Japanese runners, Glory Vase, should really be shorter than Shahryar and Authority on their achievements.
