Sweetspots: Watson’s Chessman can make winning Kempton move

John Berry is 9-21 (+£39.00) in this period over the last five years, and loves Brighton (8 winners from 23 runners). Course-and-distance winner Sussex Girl (5.25), looks sure to run a big race under Rossa Ryan.

Chessman (Kempton 7.15) has got a bit to find on the figures on this first start for Archie Watson, but he has some things in his favour. His trainer is 15-48 at the course (5-13 with older horses), and 3 from 7 with the first-time tongue-tie, so he’s worth chancing.

Haines (7.45) has a superb record over 2m at Kempton, four wins and a second from six starts, and should appreciate the return to a Class 3 after contesting some very hot races recently.
