'He'll be a massive factor in big 6f handicaps' - our experts with five key Flat horses to follow this autumn
Economics
Economics is hardly under anyone's radar, but in a season where top-class horses are few and far between he is surely going to be the star of the autumn. The form of his recent Deauville win, when the race wasn't run to suit him, is red-hot and there is plenty more to come from him when he returns on some softer ground. I can't see anything getting close to him in the Irish Champion Stakes, and while Calandagan is a fearsome opponent, I would favour Economics over him on Champions Day.
Tom Segal
Sex On Fire
Dry ground has prevailed through much of late summer, particularly at the big festivals, and it hasn't enabled Sex On Fire to show what he's made off. Easily the best of his runs before he went handicapping came on a good to soft surface at Ascot, while it was far from lively when just beaten on his handicap debut at Haydock by a horse who subsequently went up 16lb. Two runs on very fast ground since have not allowed him to show his best, but conditions will switch in his favour in the autumn and he'll pick up a decent pot when they do.
Paul Kealy
Glamorous Breeze
Glamorous Breeze, a sprinter with a conspicuously high cruising speed, hasn’t been seen to best effect this season due to a variety of reasons. As a result her official rating has dropped 9lb to 80, 5lb below her last winning mark. Put a line through her last defeat at Chepstow as she loathed the rain-softened ground. Although she is a six-year-old with 39 runs behind her, six-time scorer Glamorous Breeze remains unexposed in really big-field sprint handicaps. Invariably last off the bridle, a big pay day is imminent on good or faster ground. Sandown's 5f handicap (5.20) on Sunday presents a golden opportunity.
