Hong Kong expert Jim McGrath with three bets for Saturday's Sha Tin card

Relentless Me
9.05 Sha Tin
2pts win

Gentle Breeze
9.35 Sha Tin
2pts win

Beauty Legacy
10.10 Sha Tin
2pts win

Jerry Chau is a new name on the jockeys’ list at Sha Tin this weekend, and although a 10lb claimer, he will not be lacking experience. He is fancied to ride a winner for new boss Douglas Whyte on his first day as stable apprentice.

Chau, 20, rode 77 winners from 544 rides in South Australia during a stint with leading Adelaide trainer Leon Macdonald that was arranged by the Hong Kong Jockey Club under its scheme to foster and develop local talent by sending them abroad.

Chau should click immediately with Whyte, who saddles Relentless Me in the Class 3 6f handicap (9.05), in which he faces eight rivals.

Relentless Me is attempting his fourth win from eight starts for Whyte, who is in his first season as a trainer.

Relentless Me has gone up 6lb in the handicap for a course and distance win last time out, but he is in such great form, that is unlikely to halt his rise through the ranks.

Chau is great value for his 10lb allowance, which he can put to good use from his gate one draw.

The young rider may find himself locking horns with one of his idols, ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira, who partners in-form Fantasy, still well in as he seeks a hat-trick.

French jockey Antoine Hamelin is attracting quite a following locally, and with good reason. His judgement of pace and strength in a finish have been big positives, and he can enhance his reputation aboard Gentle Breeze for Ricky Yiu in the Class 2 5f handicap sprint (9.35).

With speedster Multimillion drawn 13 on the stands' rail, and certain to lead, the race could be nicely set up for Hamelin and Gentle Breeze, who can sit in behind the pace from gate nine before swooping late.

Moreira’s Hong Kong Win is admirably consistent and is set to run well again, while Loving A Boom has the ability to sneak a place in this highly competitive dash up the straight course.

Moreira, who will start the day four wins behind rival Zac Purton in their title battle, has a number of good rides, and the John Size-trained Beauty Legacy, in the Class 1 7f handicap (10.10), is arguably his most interesting.

Beauty Legacy finished second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington behind highly regarded Mystic Journey before shipping to Hong Kong and winning first time out over course and distance.

He then ran moderately on his next three starts before showing a return to form last time out when second to Ballistic King, who he is 5lb better off with this time for a length and a quarter defeat. Size has the key to this son of Fiorente and another win is on the cards.
