US racing tips: Shane Ketteridge provides two selections at Churchill Downs on Saturday

Batten Down
8.53pm Churchill Downs
1pt win

Halina's Forte
9.25pm Churchill Downs
1pt win

A field of six three-year-olds is set to go to post for the Bourbon Flight Stakes over 1m1½f on the dirt course and Batten Down, who was last seen finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, looks the one to beat.

Bill Mott’s Juddmonte-owned colt was behind the likes of Fierceness, Thorpedo Anna and Sierra Leone at Saratoga that day, so he will find this task much easier and has course experience, having won his maiden here in April.

He was a comfortable one-and-three-quarter-length winner of the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistledown in June and the feeling is that we have yet to see the best of this colt. Jockey Junior Alvarado will likely keep it simple and look to go wire-to-wire from the gates.

The Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes has been won by some good three-year-old fillies and trainer Philip Bauer is yet to win it, but that may change as he saddles the very promising pair of Legadema and Halina's Forte.

Halina's Forte is a very exciting daughter of Mitole who has recorded form figures of 1241 from four outings at this course and is very much going the right way.

She showed grit and determination to get the better of a nice horse in Baraye in the Galway Stakes at Saratoga last month and could prove tough to beat if Junior Alvarado can drop her in from a wide draw.
