Kempton Placepot picks: Richard Birch's perm for the £50,000 guaranteed pool

Kempton stages an excellent card by Monday standards, and punters can attack the £50,000 guaranteed Placepot pool by banking on Moutarde in leg one (12.30).

The Anthony Charlton-trained three-year-old stands out on form after his highly creditable fourth behind East India Dock at Cheltenham.

Fakenham winner Miami Magic might be able to concede weight all round in leg two (1.00). If he fails to deliver, Kapal Layar can emerge victorious.

It’s hard to split exciting novice chasers Gidleigh Park, who started 9-2 second favourite for the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, and Iberico Lord, who go head to head in leg three (1.30).

Course winners Godot and Heaven Smart, who clashed over fences at Kempton in February, look the key players in leg four (2.00), a staying handicap hurdle.

Kateira should make short work of her rivals in leg five (2.35), but leg six (3.10) looks much less straightforward.

It would be no surprise if Doddiethegreat, winner of his first four races for Nicky Henderson, proved popular now he switches to fences, but preference before seeing a mature market is for the race-fit pair Bourbali and Thelasthighking, both of whom act well at Kempton.
