Cheltenham Placepot tips: Tom Segal attempts to crack the £200,000 guaranteed pool on Sunday
The build-up to the Greatwood Hurdle (3.30) has been all about two horses and Dysart Enos and Burdett Road have been backed to the exclusion of virtually everything else.
Both could be thrown in but Burdett Road has to jump better than he did last season and Dysart Enos has been off for ages. Consequently, it could be worth avoiding them in any Placepot and sticking in the topweight Under Control, who is well treated on her defeat of Iberico Lord as a four-year-old, and bottomweight Toll Stone, who has been a big improver on the Flat this season.
All four can be given a chance in the 2m handicap chase (2.20) but the safest plays are Matata and Calico, who renew rivalry after dominating a similar race at the last Cheltenham meeting. Choosing between that pair is hard and both go in for safety.
Manothepeople was Paddy Brennan's last winner as a jockey, here in April, and looks to have been teed up for the staying chase (2.55), while bottomweight Hymac is also a course winner and warmed up for this with a win over hurdles. Both of them looked sure to run well as should Westerninthepark, who made a good start to his chasing career and remains well handicapped in the novice handicap chase (1.45).
In order to keep the perm manageable, it's probably worth banking on Ace Of Spades in the opening maiden hurdle (1.10), while Minella Hollow can maintain his unbeaten record in the bumper (4.00).
