Wolf Moon (4.07 Huntingdon)
This looks a two-horse race between Ben Pauling’s five-year-old and Galactic Charm, and on the face of it the selection might have a job on giving 10lb to his main rival. However, he gave the German Derby winner a fright, at this track, two starts back and that form is working out well, the third winning his next two and the fourth also subsequently getting on the scoresheet. He proved that run was no fluke when getting the better of a decent sort a month ago and can give the weight away.
Minella Rescue (5.35 Haydock)
Gary Hanmer’s dual bumper winner didn’t take long to find his feet over hurdles, an odds-on success at Stratford last May coming off the back of a fine third in a classy novice at Cheltenham’s April meeting. His jumping lacked a little fluency when making his comeback at Doncaster earlier in the month, but he still ran a big race on the figures against one rated 9lb higher that he was giving weight to. The handicapper tempered his reaction with a 3lb nudge and that bodes well for this handicap debut.
Tortured Soul (6.00 Southwell)
A trio of in-form sorts head the weights for this and it’s Tony Carroll’s gelding that can come out on top. The son of Zoffany has finished first or second in his last five starts, but has only gone up 6lb in the process and ran a cracker over course and distance against a progressive type last time, in a higher grade than this. A winner of half of his 16 races on all-weather, he can land win number nine from an unchanged mark.
