The Punt Acca: Richard Russell's three horse racing tips at Ayr, Bangor and Southwell on Wednesday
Three horses to include in a multiple on Wednesday . . .
Fourofakind (2.50 Ayr)
This son of Make Believe has done well since joining Lizzie Quinlan’s yard in July, winning twice from four starts over hurdles. The five-year-old was raised to a career-high rating after the second of those victories but subsequently acquitted himself well in a much better race last time, looking like the mark won’t prove beyond him. He’s back in calmer waters and Conor Rabbitt takes off a handy 5lb.
Jipcot (3.35 Bangor)
Highly tried when under the tutelage of Ben Pauling, contesting two Grade 1s straight off the bat having moved from France in the spring of 2023, the five-year-old eventually got off the mark domestically this March, when the combination of hood and tongue-tie was tried for the first time. That was no more than a fair race but he won it in good style and ran a cracker under a penalty in the Imperial Cup less than a week later. He was quiet in the market when making his seasonal and stable debut for the O’Neills in last month’s Welsh Champion Hurdle, suggesting the run was needed, and can take a firm step forward on this second run for the yard.
Gloucestershire (6.00 Southwell)
Martyn Meade’s gelding was considered a Derby horse at one stage of his career but it’s been stop-start since, the emphasis mainly on the stop. Now six, he returned from one of his many breaks at Kempton over a mile last month and there were positives to take from his performance. He was up there all the way from a wide draw before being outpaced from a furlong out. That was three weeks ago so it’s encouraging he’s now putting two runs together and the move up to 1m3f, which he won over as a juvenile, can only help. He can take advantage of this career-low mark.
