The Punt Acca: Matt Rennie's three horse racing tips from Newmarket and Wetherby on Friday
Three horses to include in a treble on Friday . . .
Magic Mild (1.43 Newmarket)
Conditions look likely to be edging towards good on the Rowley Mile and that makes Magic Mild a strong fancy in the 6f Listed contest. Trained by Clive Cox, the juvenile really got her career going on the neighbouring July course in the summer with two impressive wins, including against the reopposing It Ain't Two in a competitive nursery. That came on good to firm ground and she ran a fine race when third in a Salisbury Group 3 on good to soft last time. Those conditions were less than ideal and the more the ground dries out, the better her chance is.
Liam Swagger (2.25 Wetherby)
This three-year-old really took the eye on his jumps debut and can take the step up to Listed level in his stride against some rivals he has comfortably beaten before. Trained by James Owen, he placed in five of his seven Flat starts and made all in taking fashion when a four-and-a-quarter length winner at Market Rasen in September. The second that day, Torrent, had won beforehand and reopposes off 11lb better terms, while the third that day Model Approach has won twice since and is 3lb better off too. However, the manner of his victory at Market Rasen for a trainer who remains in red-hot form suggests he might be a smart hurdler.
Heltenham (3.00 Wetherby)
The seven-year-old goes well fresh and can make that count in this Premier Handicap chase. Trained by Dan Skelton, he goes on winning streaks and has a perfect record at Newbury, including when winning the Greatwood Gold Cup last season. He was defeated off his current mark of 142 on his last two outings, but he looked to be coming for a strong challenge before falling four out at Ayr in April. He effortlessly won on his return at this track last term and given its similarities it has to Newbury, might be a track that's right up his street too.
