Dropped in grade after finishing fourth on his chase debut in a Class 3 at Chepstow, he now has a great opportunity to open his account over fences. That run was his first of the season and he may have needed the outing, but it was a solid effort against experienced chasers. He has plenty of potential to progress over fences, and should end up a lot better than his current mark of 118 in time.

Sudu 4.00 Newcastle

He was well-supported in the market on debut, backed into 5-1, but ran keenly and struggled to pick up on heavy ground. There should be improvement to come from this 105,000gns son of Teofilo, who should not have an issue on an all-weather surface. Roger Varian has been in good form recently and boasts an excellent strike rate at Gosforth Park.

Nelson Gay 5.00 Newcastle

Has won over five furlongs here, but has won over six twice, at Wolverhampton and Southwell. It's been over a year since he last won, but has been dropping down the handicap, and now finds himself 12lb lower than his previous winning mark. He runs less frequently over six, but when he is stepped up he typically does well, particularly on the all weather with two wins from six, and placing in four of them. He should run well off a favourable mark today.
